QUIET MOUNDS - STEF HEART

You find yourself in a stone room that looks like some sort of medieval dungeon. There are (thankfully), no torture instruments, but there is a man strung up here. One large manacle is around his neck, chaining him stiffly to the door. His hands are free, but each foot is manacled to the matching bottom corner of the doorframe. There is a visible lock on each of the three manacles.

It's Stefen, and there's a knife in his chest. Despite that, he's alive, apparently alert, and doesn't look to be in pain, perhaps due to the lulling, sense-dulling music that seems to be coming from nowhere at all—in fact, if you were in pain before you entered, it's gone here. His wound is bleeding, but only a little, and he smiles his usual bright smile at you.

Behind him, but in front of the closed door he's bound to, you can see three double sets of strings running vertically. Where they meet the floor, they are fastened, and then each runs across the floor to the three doors on the opposite wall, then under them.

There is nothing else in this room.

"If you would!" She offers the key. "Here's some pay for your time."

[takes the key, heading back into the room]

Stefen looks up at him.

Hey kiddo, today's your lucky day. I found you a ticket outta this.

"What's the catch?"

[splashofbourbon]

They want you t'sing for 'em. Seems like you'll be helping your country.

"That doesn't sound real," Stefen says. He fidgets. "Really?"

You got my word. I'll take you t'see the lady who wants to meet you, if you don't like it we'll come right back.

[abardacttofollow]

"...Okay."

[splashofbourbon]

Let's go then.

[he gesture to the door]

[abardacttofollow]

He gets up to come with you.

[splashofbourbon]

[through the door!]

Lynn nods. "That's the boy."

[McCree nods to Stef]

That's the lady I was telling you about. She look all right to you?

"She looks scary."

Lynn looks taken aback.

"But... I guess... it's better than dying here."

Sometimes folks who want what's best for you seem scary to start, kid. I think you're making the right choice.

Stef nods after a moment, and walks up to Lynnell, who leads him away.

[McCree watches him go before turning to head back]

[Meanwhile, back in the Heart's Guard room]

Hello again. How're you holding up so far?

Think I—[he stops, biting back "need a drink" and just sort of gestures ineffectually]

—no worse than what I've seen before.

[he waves the key]

Lemme get you out.
